Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci's "The Virgin of the Rocks" is a beautiful example of his portraiture.
One version of this painting hangs in the Louvre, first created around 1483-1486. An almost identical painting is in the National Gallery of London, attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, probably before 1508. This version was painted for the chapel of the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception, in the church of San Francesco Grande in Milan.
